Medical Deliveries vs. Regular Deliveries

Nov 22, 2022 | Medical Logistics

Logistic courier companies handle everything from beauty and health industries to big tech corporations. All industries need the basics: storage, organization, and distribution. While some of these products require unique housing conditions — temperature or food-grade specifications, for example — none of them quite compare to the specifics that medical deliveries need.

Specifics for Medical Deliveries

Medical shipments are unique, fragile, and provide little room for error. Because of this, medical delivery services must provide specialized services not commonly offered by regular courier services. These services will enable medical deliveries to arrive safely and timely.

Stat Medical Deliveries

Medical logistic couriers offer stat same-day delivery. Unlike other product transportation, medical deliveries can commonly be the deciding factor in a life or death situation. Because of this, medical logistic companies will offer non-stop, optimized, end-of-the-day routes to get patients what they need quickly for time-sensitive deliveries.

24/7/365 Services

In addition to the necessity of same-day deliveries, medical couriers operate 24/7/365 for the same reasons. If someone is sick on Christmas day, there is no worry because medical couriers work every day. We work through the night. We work every weekend, holiday, and hour. We are always on call because our services will make a difference in somebody’s life.

Medically Trained to Handle Medical Freight

At regular logistic companies, all employees are highly trained to handle general freight. Contrarily, at medical logistic companies, all employees are trained professionals in handling varying types of medical cargo, including:

  • Biopsy
  • Live organ
  • Rx
  • Medical record
  • Prosthesis
  • Biological sample
  • Medical specimen

Extensive Record Keeping

The FDA requires all wholesale drug distributors to keep extensive records of all incoming and outgoing transactions. Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations section F requires inventories and records of every transaction’s arrival and departure. Records must also include temperature and humidity of storage environments of each drug, examination of all medicines, and quarantined, destroyed, or returned pharmaceuticals.

Additionally, all records must remain accessible for up to 3 years after being created for inspection and photocopying by federal, state, and local law enforcement.

Unlike other warehousing inventories, medical inventories must be precise in any medical emergency. Records must include the address where the drug was shipped from, the name and address of the seller or transferor, the identity and quantity of each drug, and the date of arrival and departure. The logistics company can be in significant trouble if any of these components are missing.
